Raa Atoll, also known as Northern
Maalhosmadulhu Atoll, is one of the 21 administrative divisions of the
Maldives. It comprises 88 islands of which only 15 are inhabited.
Ungoofaaru serves as the capital of Raa Atoll. Most of its islands are
unoccupied and only one out of them has been chosen to develop as a
tourist resort. At its centre, there are extensive and complex reef
formations, which make the atoll good enough for diving. Moreover, Raa
Atoll is renowned for its boat building tradition, though largely
cantered in Alifushi.
